1、高考的英語全稱是：National College Entrance Examination，簡稱NEMT，中文全稱是：普通高等學(xué)校招生全國統(tǒng)一考試。

首先，英美國人對高考的理解貌似跟我們不太一樣，有些人認(rèn)為它可以籠統(tǒng)地算作一場考試，因此用的是單數(shù)exam；而有些人認(rèn)為它是一系列的考試，所以要用復(fù)數(shù)exams，各有各的道理。
其次，這個“高”（高等學(xué)校）是翻譯成college還是university？我們常常聽到的解釋是“college是學(xué)院，而university是綜合性大學(xué)”。其實(shí)都可以，尤其是在美國英語中，MacMillan English Dictionary - American是這樣解釋college的：in the U.S., a place that gives students degrees. A school of this typecan also be called a universityif it is large enough to give degrees in more than one subject。

注意事項(xiàng)：
1.每個單詞一般都不大寫，除非在句首；

高考(gaokao)指中華人民共和國全國普通高等學(xué)校招生入學(xué)考試(National Higher Education Entrance Examination)，也叫全國大學(xué)入學(xué)考試(National College Entrance Examination)，是中國大陸一年一度(annual)的學(xué)業(yè)考試(academic examination)。
相當(dāng)于美國SAT考試，即SAT Reasoning Test，以前叫Scholastic Assessment Test與Scholastic Aptitude Test.
該考試幾乎是進(jìn)入所有高等學(xué)校(higher education institution)本科階段(undergraduate level)學(xué)習(xí)的必要條件(prerequisite)，決定了一個人一生的職業(yè)軌跡(professional trajectory)。
學(xué)生一般在中學(xué)教育(secondary education)【包括高中與初中】最后一年參加(sit)高考，但從2001年開始已經(jīng)沒有年齡限制(age restriction)。考試成績不好(a poor performance on the test)幾乎就意味著沒有機(jī)會上大學(xué)。
所以有些人在考試失利后會選擇重讀(repeat the last year of high school life)第二年重考(make another attempt/retake the test)。
