　　Part A Reading Aloud

　　In this part, you are required to watch a video clip and read after the speaker in the video.

　　Almost eleven kilometers deep, the Pacific is the deepest body of water on the planet. But sometimes, the seabed shoots to the surface. The creation of a new island. This is Kavachi, one of the most active undersea volcanoes in the world. Powerful waves keep sweeping its efforts away. Today, only 1% of this vast ocean is land, and much of it owes its existence to the powers of volcanoes like Kavachi. The never-ending rise and fall of land in the Pacific will continue to produce strange and wonderful worlds. The natural force that created land here in the first place, the ocean volcano. (66”)

　　M: Yes. I’m very excited. I had never thought that having a baby would make me think a lot about the future.

　　W: Oh? What are you thinking about?

　　M: I’m wondering what is life will be in ten years.

　　W: So you are predicting the future?

　　M: Not really. Being a teacher, I’m not sure if his education will be a lot different from what was for us when we were ten or twelve.

　　Tom was invited by a university in New York City for a job interview which was set at 10:00 a.m. Tom had never been to the city and he wasn’t aware of the heavy morning traffic. When he was nearing the downtown, his bus was only able to move forward at a very slow pace with so many cars on the road. So he reached the university an hour late and missed the interview. Fortunately, he was offered another interview which was again at 10:00 a.m. two days later. Tom was very embarrassed about being late and decided that it would never happen again. So he started out very early on the day of the second interview. It was a freezing winter morning and Tom made his way in the falling snow. He reached the university two hours earlier and waited at the gate of the building. When the director came to work, he was surprised to see Tom so early. Tom explained that he did not want to be late again. The director called him in and gave him an offer right away, saying that a man who cared so much about time should be trusted.
