As a teacher in Department of Biology, Nankai University, a leading university in China, I am very pleased to take this opportunity to recommend one of my favorite students to your PhD program.
In September, 2004, Miss Zhang was my students in General Biology, the first professional course they take in the field. She likes it very much. I teach her in an open and interactive manner, she is active and passionate about answering class questions. Miss Zhang is bright, energetic and enthusiastic girl who loves speaking out her own ideas. She never escapes from those points of which she is skeptical. Apart from that, she often puts forward her ideas upon questions and exchanges all of her innovate ideas with me after class.
Upon ending of General Biology course, I asked my students to write an essay upon their understanding of biology. I discovered Miss Zhang’s essay was so impressive and persuasive; her careful essay comes from dozens of references to Biology literatures. In essay Miss Zhang stretched out her creative thinking upon status quo of biological research and branches in the field of biology. All of this speaks to her creative and logical and scientific thinking capability. I am gladly to say that Miss Zhang has a clear understanding about General Biology, that comprehension has been reflected fully in her essay. I am writing to strongly recommend Miss/Mr. XXXX for admission into the famous University of Waterloo.
Through teaching and informal consultation, I had chances to get to know her/him academic potentials and her/him ideals before she/he left for Canada. In my opinion she/he can be reliably graded as one of the best undergraduates here in 2002 grade students with majors in our department. Miss/Mr. is apparently a very bright student, with special interests and enjoyment in mathematics especially in passionate and innovative ways of tackling and solving various problems in mathematics. Perhaps her/his present mathematics scores in Canada could support my view. ①推薦人要熟悉申請(qǐng)人的學(xué)習(xí)和工作，推薦人要清楚的知道申請(qǐng)人出國(guó)留學(xué)的動(dòng)機(jī)和學(xué)習(xí)計(jì)劃，最好有過(guò)比較密切的交流。在此基礎(chǔ)上，如果推薦人是外國(guó)教授，而該教授和申請(qǐng)人申請(qǐng)的學(xué)校又很熟悉，這種推薦往往就能起到事半功倍的效果，當(dāng)然很少有申請(qǐng)人可以找到這樣符合條件的推薦人;如果推薦人是跟所申請(qǐng)的學(xué)校沒(méi)什么關(guān)系，那么就要找在申請(qǐng)人所申請(qǐng)的專業(yè)內(nèi)很有名的專家，像擁有院士之類(lèi)頭銜的人，經(jīng)常參加國(guó)際交流，這樣的推薦信作用也是不可忽視的，不過(guò)找這樣的專家寫(xiě)推薦信也是比較難的;所以對(duì)于大部分申請(qǐng)人來(lái)說(shuō)，我認(rèn)為找推薦人還是以找熟人為主，因?yàn)橐话闶烊撕谜f(shuō)話，相對(duì)會(huì)比較容易配合你的申請(qǐng)，二是在評(píng)審委員看來(lái)也是比較合理的`。
②推薦人的身份要合理，最好是相關(guān)專業(yè)的。如果申請(qǐng)人是一個(gè)還在校的學(xué)生，那比較好的選擇應(yīng)該就是系主任、專業(yè)任課老師、班主任，或者課外活動(dòng)、社會(huì)活動(dòng)的見(jiàn)證人作為推薦人;如果申請(qǐng)人已經(jīng)畢業(yè)或者參加工作了，也可以選擇你的直接上司，或者大學(xué)畢業(yè)論文指導(dǎo)作為推薦人。在我看來(lái)沒(méi)必要找一個(gè)和申請(qǐng)人的專業(yè)不熟悉，和申請(qǐng)人不熟悉的院士或者大公司總裁之類(lèi)的人作為你的推薦人。
